SGS – A Brief History.
The Beginning. Summit Geoengineering Services (SGS) was formed in 1998 as a subsidiary of Summit Environmental Consultants (SEC) under the direction of Bill Peterlein. The purpose, at that time, was to expand Summit’s capabilities by providing geotechnical consulting. In 2010, Bill Peterlein and Craig Coolidge purchased SGS from SEC to operate as an independent geotechnical consulting firm.
New Capabilities. In 2012, GSG expanded to include field exploration services with the addition of an AMS 9500 VTR PowerProbe rubber track ATV direct push/auger equipped with cone penetration testing (CPT) capabilities using Vertek cones and software. SGS’s soils laboratory testing services followed soon after. To further ensure flexible field exploration services, SGS added an AMS 9630 truck PowerProbe and a Kubota KX040 Excavator in 2018 and 2019, respectively.
Today. Today SGS operates as a comprehensive geotechnical consulting firm that services New England clients from our headquarter’s office in Farmingdale, Maine and our drilling operations office in Washington, Maine. SGS continues to expand its exploration and consulting/design services and attract and retain highly qualified professionals to better serve our many clients.
